Mission

KBB – Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH – takes on the challenge of making art and culture visible time and again, taking present and future demands into account. Together with our artistically independent venues – Berlinale, Berliner Festspiele including the Gropius Bau and Haus der Kulturen der Welt – we hold a wide variety of cultural events for large numbers of people throughout the year. We pool knowledge, develop synergies and create access to engage with the arts – whether visual arts, film, music, theatre or dance. 

Über die KBB I Geschichte

History

At the beginning of the 2000s, the federal government and the state of Berlin were faced with the task of reorganising structures and expanding Berlin’s international cultural significance. In this context, individual institutions became the responsibility of the federal government.

Structure

More than a merger: KBB unites three cultural institutions with an overarching organisational structure. Working together promotes the idea of cooperation, creates synergies and at the same time ensures planning certainty. KBB is supported and funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. 

Whether exhibitions, film and music festivals or panel discussions: We create places of artistic debate that address current issues, invite people to engage and demonstrate new perspectives for sustainable cultural work.

Performing Exiles is an international and interdisciplinary festival produced by the Berliner Festspiele, that seeks to make diasporic lives in the city of Berlin visible and explore the contemporary meaning of exile. The second edition of the festival will present both works by internationally acclaimed artists and those of artists who are still at the beginning of their careers.

In many languages, the word musafiri oscillates between the meanings of ‘traveller’ and ‘guest’ and thus touches on the question of who is welcome and who is not. The exhibition is dedicated to travellers, their stories, and encounters, and the worlds they open up. It bears witness to the necessity of a society in which travellers can arrive and be received as welcome guests.
