Accessibility Statement

Information on digital accessibility at KBB

This accessibility statement applies to the websites and mobile applications of Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin (KBB) GmbH with our venues – Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Gropius Bau and the Berlin International Film Festival:

Our websites and mobile applications provide a wealth of information about our exhibitions and events.

  • We strive to make our websites and mobile applications accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Accessibility Enhancement Act and the associated Accessibility Enhancement Act Ordinance.
  • We continuously conduct reviews and tests to ensure that our digital content complies with current accessibility standards and to identify any areas requiring improvement. We are continuously working to increase accessibility on our digital offerings.
  • The above-mentioned digital offerings of our institutions are based on different technologies and platforms. Each of these platforms therefore has its own technical framework conditions that can influence accessibility implementation. Due to different technical and organisational environments, the implementation of accessibility standards (BITV 2.0) is not always completely identical. There may therefore be deviations from the minimum requirements, particularly in the case of special functionalities or individual module applications.
  • Further information on the individual measures according accessibility can be found on our institutions' websites.

Design and implementation

We strive to design our digital applications in such a way that they are accessible and usable to the greatest extent possible by people with various limitations and disabilities inter alia by:

    • We strive to provide our videos with subtitles and, where possible, audio descriptions to make them accessible to people with hearing and visual impairments.
    • We endeavour to design all PDF documents and other downloadable content in such a way that they are accessible to screen readers and other assistive technologies. If they are not, we indicate this in a low-threshold manner.
    • We use alt text for images, audio files and silent videos to aid understanding of the content.
    • Information content can be displayed in different ways using assistive technologies.
  • We strive to make our information easy to find, for example through full-text search and our navigation structure.
  • We endeavour to make our information available in easy-to-understand language.
  • Our information is perceptible through, among other things
    • High-contrast display
    • Interaction elements marked with alt text
    • Meaningful link texts
    • Elements that are placed in a logical order as far as possible so that screen readers can capture them
    • Meaningful section headings
    • Sound and moving elements that can be turned off
    • A display that can be perceived without colours and without reference to sensory characteristics
    • Alternative ways of accessing information and consistent labelling of our pages

    • Among other things, elements are read aloud by screen readers only when they are clicked on.
    • Moving content can be paused.
    • Elements with sound can be muted.
    • Sudden flashing of elements is avoided as far as possible.
